GEOGRAPHY :
One of the smallest of the French administrative Departments (1,128 km2), Martinique consists of a mountainous massif in the north, with the Lamentin Plain in the central region (where its international airport is located), while the remainder consists of relief featuring moderate valleys.
POPULATION :
400,000 inhabitants, with an average population density of 340 people per km2. Main towns: Fort de France, Le Lamentin and Schoelcher.
CLIMATE :
An oceanic tropical climate with two seasons; the Carème, which is the hot and dry season, lasting from December to May, and the Hivernage, which is the wetter season, lasting from June to November.
ECONOMIC ACTIVITIES :
Mainly tourism-related, even though industry and agriculture are striving to respond to local and even regional demand.
