GEOGRAPHY :
Scattered over an expanse of the Pacific Ocean with a surface area equivalent to that of Europe, the 118 islands of Frecnch Polynesia do in fact only have a land mass of 4,200 km2, and are grouped together in 5 archipelagos (the Society Islands, consisting of the Windward Islands and the Leeward Islands, the Marquesas Islands, the Austral Islands, the Tuamotu Islands, and the Gambier Islands), which form an Overseas Country.
POPULATION :
: The population has tripled in 40 years, going from 80,000 to over 250,000 inhabitants, over half of whom are under the age of 25, with a high degree of urban population pressure.
CLIMATE :
A tropical maritime climate with a hot season that lasts from November to March.
TRANSPORT :
One international airport (Tahiti Faa) and a few local airports (inter-island links are mainly via boat) in addition to ports.
